The record rainbow trout for Alberta was caught in Maligne Lake, tipping the scales at 9 kg (20.5 lbs). Fishing permits are available from Parks Canada or sport shops ($9.80/day, $34.30/year). The surest way to catch fish is to secure the services of a guide. Rates are per person based on 2 person trips. Trips usually include transportation, boat, tackle, lunch and rain gear.

All gear, hotel pick-up and transport to staging areas included. Their shop sells tackle and licenses, rents boats, and provides free advice and maps for those fishing on their own.
